Artist's Description

#200712280051-2 Mission at Tumacacori, AZ. Tumacacori is the site of a Franciscan mission that was built in the late 18th century. It takes its name from an earlier mission site founded by Father Eusebio Kino in 1691, which is on the east side of the Santa Cruz River south of the national park. This Kino-period mission was founded at an extant native O'odham or Sobaipuri settlement and represents the first mission in southern Arizona, but not the first mission in Arizona. The remains of the native settlement are still extant and have been investigated and reported on by archaeologist Deni Seymour. The later Franciscan mission, which is now a ruin preserved as Tumaccori National Historical Park, was never rebuilt after being abandoned after repeated Apache raids in the 19th century that put a stop to the growth of the area's economy. Nearby Tubac was besieged in 1861. Mission San Jos de Tumaccori (O'odham: Cemagĭ Gakolig) is a historic Spanish mission preserved in its present...

Welcome to my photography webpage! Here you will find some of my favorite photos, most from the beautiful land where I live--the Black Hills of South Dakota. I am a self-taught photographer, and I find much joy in hiking trails and searching for the unusual capture in nature. Please make yourself at home. I hope you enjoy viewing these images as much as I find pleasure in capturing them! All products ship from a production facility in the United States. If you are a PUBLIC school teacher (Early Childhood including Early Head Start/Head Start, or PreK - 12) who is interested in using my images in the classroom, please contact me via the webpage for information about downloads.
