Cirrus clouds provide a stunning silhouette for this tree as evening approaches. This tree is a survivor. It is in the floodplain of Rapid Creek and withstood the devastating flood of 1972. The Black Hills Flood of 1972, also known as the Rapid City Flood, was one of the most detrimental floods in the history of South Dakota. It took place on June 9-10, 1972 in the Black Hills of Western South Dakota. 15 inches (380 mm) of extreme rainfall over six hours sent Rapid Creek and other waterways overflowing, flooding many residential and commercial properties in Rapid City. nature, tree, south dakota, dakota, black hills, black hills of south dakota, cirrus, cloud, evening, shadow, silhouette, sky, sunset, light #201010190182
Welcome to my photography webpage! Here you will find some of my favorite photos, most from the beautiful land where I live--the Black Hills of South Dakota. I am a self-taught photographer, and I find much joy in hiking trails and searching for the unusual capture in nature. Please make yourself at home. I hope you enjoy viewing these images as much as I find pleasure in capturing them! All products ship from a production facility in the United States. If you are a PUBLIC school teacher (Early Childhood including Early Head Start/Head Start, or PreK - 12) who is interested in using my images in the classroom, please contact me via the webpage for information about downloads.
